I bought this Parmak Magnum 12volt solar fence charger for a pasture for a horse my wife purchased at an auction. Closest access to electricity was more than 500 feet away by way of the woods so solar made it very simple. We utilized a 9 wire poly rope. The pasture is about two and a half acres. We installed the fence charger per the included directions. We applied 3 8 foot grounding rods as recommended. This point will knock your socks off and that was before we found a place exactly where the poly rope/wire was shorting on a steel post considering it did not get inserted into the plastic insulator clip. Now it is late summer and the grass has grown up and is touching the fence in some places. The meter on the fence charger still show beyond the green (superior). Our horse has by no means attempted to test the fence as far as I know. The neighbor now put a two year old palamino in our pasture for a companion for our horse. The two year old has in no way tested the fence as far as I know and he respects the fence. Never ever had either horse get out of the pasture. I consider these 12 volt units execute improved thatn the 6 volt units. This unit has exceeded my expectations as far as a solar fence charger goes.
My encounter completely opposite that of the other reviewer. Functions awesome, maintains charge even if moderate grass/weeds present. I am using it with electrobraid.
You can locate it much less expensive elsewhere.
