This is our second opener from GTO. The 1st (model FM350) we bought 8 years ago. It did not work out of the box and following a week of consistently calling GTO, with no reaching something but an answering machine on their non-toll cost-free tech line, I finally managed to speak with somebody and get a replacement unit sent out. This unit worked nicely with tiny trouble until last year. I looked for a replacement and found this model at a much lower value than the FM350. I was shocked to get that it was not a direct replacement for the FM350 and its installation was completely several from the FM350. It also seemed to be the FM350's especially tiny cousin.
It worked for 60 days and gave up the ghost. Based on my prior concerns reaching GTO on the telephone 8 years ago, I was hoping things had changed. I called the toll totally free number on the opener and, as 8 years ago, was told to call a non-toll cost-free number for tech assistance. As soon as again a contact was made and a message left. The superb recording that plays over and more than again though I was on hold told me to "register your tech help situation on the world-wide-web." Ok, I will give it a attempt. I navigated to the warranty assistance page and noticed a trouble shooting check list. Wonderful, possibly I can fix the issue. I pull down the menu of models and anything under the sun except for the FM200 is listed. Amazing. I finally discover the page to "open a repair ticket" and do so. And, I wait and wait. 3 days later I get a fantastic message from somebody telling me to contact them. Why did not I believe about that! What ever gave me the notion of going to the net? Ok, call once more and once again and once again. I lastly get a person right after a week of calling. The contact goes like this: Welcome to GTO buyer assistance my name is Mike. Hi Mike, please give me a supervisor. What is the situation Sir? Its a extended story and I have had it with GTO. Please give me a supervisor. Ok, tell me what the situation is. I want a supervisor. Ok, you can talk to me about that. Are you a supervisor? No, click, dial tone.
I lastly reach a supervisor. He agrees to give me a RMA. I ship it off at my expense and in a week obtain a contact from GTO. The call goes like this. Hello Sir. I am from GTO and have looked at your unit. The control arm is bent and you will have to replace the whole unit. I can offer you you a refurbished unit for $289.00. Ok, that's superb except that I paid $200.00 for a new 1! AND this unit's control arm was bent (quite tiny distortion of the arm at the particularly tip - hard to see) Following it quit working when UPS attempting to force it open. Ok, well that is what the challenge looks like here. What do you want to do? Did you test the electronics to ascertain no matter whether they were poor? Oh no, I am not a technician. I just appear at the openers when they come in. Wonderful! Ok, test the thing and if the electronics are poor, I count on a new one. I will send it to a tech. Ok, call me when you figure out what is incorrect. I do not want to get a broken opener back in the mail. Ten days later, A new opener shows up without any explanation. Its installed and it operates but who knows for how lengthy and if I have to call GTO once again!
8 MONTHS That's THE ANSWER - I am writing a follow up to the above evaluation which I wrote 8 months ago. It died soon after eight months.
